Williamsburg + Greenpoint
A few weeks ago, we went down through Williamsburg to see the main avenue of Greenpoint. Even though a lot of it has changed and old places have been replaced or torn down, there are still a lot of old signs and storefronts as you get closer to the water!
This is one of the signs I saw getting off the train in Williamsburg, there was also a similar one in Greenpoint for a mini mart! Such a great sign style.
There are many faded signs that I really enjoyed, but this one looked the oldest. It seemed like it used to be an ice cream parlor.
There were three storefronts in a row all named Josephs, but I don't they're in business anymore. They took up half the block and all had different sign styles! I loved the old gates on the front of the stores, too.
The main strip of Greenpoint ends and then goes left into Williamsburg again, and turns more industrial. There are a LOT of factories and warehouses, though there is a lot of construction going on.
This corner factory was enormous, and had a really different curved building style.
This was all one huge packaging building.
Some of the great old brick buildings and houses.
A walk down one of the blocks led to this small park, which had this 1936 radio station building!
And a restaurant by the water next to this old factory.
This was one of my favorite finds on the walk, the weathered warehouse sign here. It looks like it's for sale, so sadly it might be torn down one day.
Down another block, there were over a dozen homeless cats hanging out. There was a falling apart building by the water, with two huge holes in it.
On a side street, there was this New York Transit Authority building that seems pretty old. There is also another very old one that looks closed down in Williamsburg.
A very large lot housed this amazing building and some other ones covered in graffiti and plants.
And some more various buildings on the way back through Williamsburg to the train!
