Bunker 223 & The S.S. Atlantus

Some of the coolest things to see in Cape May were the strangest, both abandoned and decaying. I had looked this up before hand was was excited to see them, and the bunker was so much bigger than I imagined.

You have to go all the way out to the beach to see the full thing, and it takes a few minutes to just fully walk around it. It has to be over thirty feet tall, and the walls inside are six feet thick.

The bunker on the front and back are fully closed up, no way to get into it, though I wish they could do tours of it and talk about the history of being int the way and all the weapons it housed.

A little bit of graffiti, thankfully not so much that it ruins it.

You can see here where it's all boarded up.

Big shot of the whole bunker from the right side!

The S.S. Atlantus is one of twelve concrete ships created during World War I, it's almost one hundred years old! It has been out in the water since the 20s, but the condition of it has worsened over time, breaking in half around the 50s.

Great postcard from x

Birds love the hang out on it. I wish I could have gotten a closer shot, but you can tell how close it is the shore, still. It's a great piece of history and I'm glad we could get a glimpse before it eventually fully falls apart.
