Cape May - Day 1
We took a trip to Cape May, New Jersey for my birthday this Friday, I've been looking forward to going for a while and it was so much prettier there than I thought. The ride to Cape May was about five hours on the NJ Transit, but worth it!
First place we went after checking in was to this small cafe/restaurant right next to it. There actually isn't a boardwalk, the last one was wiped out during a storm years ago, but there is a concrete promenade.
More than a few of the places along the promenade were closed for the season or just closed, like this one. It's a weird sight, I liked the faded hand painted sign.
Walking along it to the left, there are many Victorian homes and B&Bs. Many of them are painted bright colors and have more than three stories. We didn't make it all the way down to the end of that side, but I'm sure there were a lot more homes worth looking at.
The side streets are mes, you can walk down almost any of the streets in a ten block radius and see tons of homes from the mid to late 1800s. About half of them are private residences, while the others are bed and breakfasts or rentals.
This was one of my favorite homes, on the corner near a World War II memorial. A huge house with some flowers on the inside of the fence too.
This clock is the oldest in the town apparently! Not working any more.
We went along the "Mall" which is in the middle of town, they have a lot of small shops for souvenirs or snacks. That was some great moose tracks ice cream from a shop there, and a salt water taffy store.
Above is the Southern Mansion, the back was added fairly recently but the front is from the 1800s. It's now a B&B.
A lot of the trees were blooming around!
The place we stayed let you go onto the roof, some shots of the water and beach from up there.
The Inn of Cape May, which is over 100 years old. This has to be one of *most* grand buildings here.
We walked around a little around the area surrounding the mall, which has some of the best buildings. My favorites are definitely the very colorful ones.
Took a stop into the salt water taffy shop to look around, loved the decor and design of it all.
And one of the last things we did was a ghost tour, which was ok, but was still nice to see the town during the night.
