Prospect Park + Vale of Cashmere

It was the 150th anniversary of Prospect Park this weekend, thought I would make a post about my favorite and closest park in the city. Prospect Park is a park I've been to too many times to count and it has so many old and historic features.

The Music Pagoda, have only gone onto it once years ago but would like to explore it more.

Eastwood Arch, leading to the carousel and Prospect Park zoo.

Here is the Vale of Cashmere, one of the hidden places of the park that always fascinates me. I finally found out the proper name of it and looked it up, and found some information and old postcards featuring it.

The old photos show that it used to be a beautiful garden and fountain, but it's in disrepair. It's sad that the most beautiful parts of the park are like this, but it has an abandoned and quiet feel that I love. There are also fountains that used to be used, which you can see if you walk up the stairs to the left of the Vale. They are currently in a pretty abandoned area and dry.

The bricks that have "CATSKILLS" engraved on them.

This is also a great place to see wildlife, mostly birds, who love to fly around the plants and trees.

The park does have plans to restore the Vale fountain and add a reflecting pool, as well as fill the other dry fountains, which I think will be beautiful when finished.

Some of the snake urns that are featured by the entrance to the park near the library. According ephemeralnewyork.wordpress.com, there are 56 snakes in total, and they were created in the late 1800s.
